COA RO5 witnessed a thrilling and fun-filled Thursday afternoon during the Championship games for Tetris, Chess and Mobile Legends. The games were broadcasted live via Facebook. The best part was that the games had made everyone – the Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials and Generation Z – engaged in a virtual way of celebrating COA Anniversary. These events also proved that COA Region 5 employees are not just work-driven but also well-rounded individuals.
Engr. Juchelle Hernane C. Macoy, Technical Audit Specialist I, was proclaimed as the first ever winner for the Tetris Tournament of COA RO5. Engr. Macoy represented the Regional Office while her opponent, Dominic M. Quinones, State Auditing Examiner II, represented the Province of Catanduanes. Engr. Macoy won in a 3-1 score. Meanwhile, Brene Joseph N. Luz, State Auditing Examiner II, from Albay, bagged the third place, after the elimination game against Jessica Kris E. Morales, State Auditing Examiner II, of the province of Camarines Norte.
The first ever chess tournament for COA RO5 held Team Sorsogon and Team Masbate as champions for Women’s and Men’s categories, respectively. Team Sorsogon was represented by Sherilyn L. Hernandez, State Auditor II, while the Team Masbate’s champ was Gerald B, Dejumo, State Auditing Examiner II.
Hernandez scored 3-1 against Regional Office’s bet Marjorie T. Arimado, Administrative Aide IV. Meanwhile, the third place was bagged by April Ann S. Bigay, State Auditing Examiner II, from the province of Camarines Sur.
On the other hand, Dejumo emerged as the champion for the Men’s category by winning three of his games and sat half a point ahead of Teodoro C. Mediavillo, State Auditor II, of Albay. Team Sorsogon’s player, Edgar D. Magbanua, State Auditor III, took the third place against John Cristopher V. de Guzman, State Auditing Examiner II, from the Province of Camarines Norte.

Ceasar Rian T. Baylon from Team Sorsogon said that it was a nice break from the usual busy schedule of COAns. Because of this, they were able to play with their colleagues in a competitive setting.
“Personally, we play a lot of sports but because of the pandemic, we had to stop that. Thankfully, we had Mobile Legends, a game where we could still play with our friends and be competitive while still being safe and observing proper health protocols,” said Baylon.
The team also thanked COA for organizing such event. “As the inaugural champions of the tournament, we hope that we could continue what we have started and have another tournament next year so we could defend our title,” Baylon enthusiastically added.
